Our feature documentary The Ghost Mountain Experiment is nearing completion.
It examines the family of an eccentric author and artist, Marshal South, who chose to live a primitive existence
on an isolated, desolate desert mountaintop for 17 years during the Depression and World War II.
See www.GhostMountainMovie.com.
Partial funding was provided by the Anza-Borrego Foundation & Institute and more funding is being sought.
Editing and fundraising continues on John’s feature-length documentary about Chinese opera, Children of the Pear Garden.
He has made four trips to mainland China to explore the fascinating world of this ancient art form and the performers who struggle
to survive in the face of a rapidly changing society.
In August, John travels to Scotland with director of photography Nick Higgins to follow the world’s elite solo bagpipers
as they come together as an all-star band called the Spirit of Scotland. The Glenfiddich Distillery-sponsored band will
compete one time only in the World Bagpipe Championships in Glasgow. Working title: SKIRL.
The International Documentary Association is the sponsor on all three documentaries. Donations are tax-deductible.
